How to download Power BI Desktop (Alternate method)

We saw in our previous article how to use Microsoft Store to install Power BI, Download Power BI if you have a 32-bit operating system and if you want to share the installation of Power BI with a colleague or with a friend.

Through this article we will show you the method of downloading and installing the Power BI Desktop, using an executable.

Download Power BI Desktop from Microsoft’ official site

  1. Go to this link: https://aka.ms/pbiSingleInstaller you will be redirected directly to the official Microsoft page which allows you to download the latest version of Power BI.
  2. On this page, you can choose your preferred language and click on “Download”

3. From the page that appears choose PBIDesktopSetup.exe if you have a 32-bit operating system or PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe if you have a 64-bit operating system then click on “Next”, You can check the version of your system operation by going to https://whatsmyos.com/

If the following screen appears, your download has started, please wait for the download to complete.

Once the download is complete, open the resulting file and follow the installation steps. You can share this installation file with your friends and colleagues.

Recurring Problem and Solution

Microsoft .Net Framework required for installing Microsoft Power BI Desktop (x64)

This error can be caused by one of two things

1. You have a 32-bit operating system

You can check your operating system version by going to https://whatsmyos.com/

If you have a 32-bit operating system, instead follow the instructions in this article to install 32-bit Power BI.

2. You have a 64-bit operating system But .Net Framework not installed

If you have a 64-bit operating system visit this page to download and install .Net Framework on your computer and reinstall Power BI.
